Mildred ‘Millie’ Van Dorf

Mildred “Millie” Van Dorf of Antigo died Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center.

She was 88 years old. She was born on November 11, 1927, in Sullivan, a daughter of Paul and Catherine (Coffey) Garity.

She married William Van Dorf on September 28, 1946, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sullivan. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1998.

After marriage, the couple lived in Wales, Wis. She worked at the Masonic Home in Dousman and the Envelope Factory, which became Poniks Manufacturing in Wales, where she was a machine press operator.

She moved to Antigo in 1971. Millie and her husband owned and operated Van Dorf’s Bar in the Town of Antigo from 1971 to 1986. She was a newspaper delivery lady for the Antigo Daily Journal and Milwaukee Journal for seven years. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the Langlade County Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed bowling, dancing, cooking and gardening, especially flowers.

Survivors include a son, Fred (Charlene) Van Dorf of Antigo; two daughters, Judy (Ronald) Low of Phillipsburg, Mo., and Shirley (Lee) Garton of Deerbrook; a sister, Florence Lambrecht of Antigo; five grandchildren, David, Keith and Allen Garton, Brad (Jamie) Van Dorf and Heather (Steven) Waas; five great-grandchildren, Ariana, Sierra and Brynn Garton, Wacey Garton and Conner Van Dorf; and a grandson- in-law, James Rogers.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cynthia Rogers; four sisters, Agnes Chapel, Dorothy Olson, Irene Eppers and Ruth in infancy; and three brothers, John, LeRoy and Ralph Garity.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, at 1 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo with the Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
