Roger W. Puterbaugh, 83, passed away peacefully at home on December 7, 2015.
He was the wonderful husband of 61 years to Barbara; loving father to Lynn of Aurora, Ill., Cindy (Duncan) Giles of Naperville, Ill., and Amy Anderson of Knoxville, Tenn.; and grandpa to Cameron (Scott) Grzenczyk of San Fransico, Madeline Giles of Venice, Calif., Anne Giles of Olympia, Wash., and Zach and Nathan Anderson of Minneapolis. He is also survived by his loving sister Jane K. Kanicki of Delran, N.J., as well as many other dear relatives, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine, and his brothers Donald and William Jr.
Roger grew up in Sterling, Ill., where he met his future wife and was a star athlete in all the sports he competed in. He was inducted into the Sterling Township High School Hall of Fame. He attended Drake University, where he played football and baseball and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Upon graduation, he served in the Air Force in the Strategic Air Command.
Roger worked in the financial services Industry for over 50 years. Upon retirement, he became more active in his community and church. Kiwanis was a big part of his life. He was a past president, served on many committees with his favorite working at the annual shrimp dinner, which he did for over 20 years. During the Oconomowoc Art Festival, he greeted the visiting artists and drove them to their booths for over 10 years. He was a very active member of the Good Shepherd Methodist Church of Oconomowoc, serving for over 40 years on various committees.
Roger loved to play golf and bridge. He had his hole-in-one at Deertrack Golf Club in 1989. He was an avid reader and never met a crossword puzzle that didnít frustrate him. He was always happy to see his friends and never thought twice about lending a helping hand.
Visitation will be Monday, December 21, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Good Shepherd Methodist Church, 800 Lake Drive, Oconomowoc. The celebration of life service will begin at noon with a light luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Methodist Church, in the name of Roger Puterbaugh for a memorial garden.
