Hans H. Zimmermann

Hans H. Zimmermann, age 87, of Chicago, formerly of Waukesha, was born to eternal life on Jan. 27, 2016. He was the loving husband of Ruta for 56 years; beloved father of Susanne and Stephanie (Jon); grandfather of Elizabeth, Lucy and Audrey; and uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Irmgard, and siblings Renate, Ursula and Wolf Dieter.
Hans was born in Griez, Germany, and immigrated to New York in 1957. He held a degree in hotel management from the Ecole Hoteliere in Lausanne, Switzerland, and spent his career in the field of hospitality, managing hotels, country clubs and the Schnitzelhaus German restaurant in Milwaukee, of which he was co-owner. He spent the latter part of his career managing food service and nutrition at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
A strong athlete, Hans competed in tennis leagues and sailing races and conquered the 55K American Birkebeiner cross country ski race at age 64. He volunteered for many years with the National Ski Patrol at Alpine Valley in East Troy. Hans spent most of his career in Wisconsin, then retired with his wife first to Colorado and later to Punta Gorda and Summerfield, Fla. and then Chicago.
A private memorial service will be held in summer.
