Karen M. Granholm (nee Hansen)
Karen M. Granholm (nee Hansen) of Elm Grove died peacefully at AngelsGrace Hospice on February 23, 2016, at the age of 77 years.
Karen was born in Green Bay to Evan and Viola Hansen in October 1938.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Dick, of 58 years. She was the devoted mother of sons Troy, Kyle and Lance (Jennifer), and proud and caring grandmother of Trent and Ethan. She is further survived by brothers Ernest (the late Beverly) Hansen, Norman (Rae) Hansen, and John (Margo) Hansen, nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless dear friends.
Karen graduated from Green Bay West High School, and married Dick in May of 1957 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Green Bay. After working in various secretarial positions, she and Dick purchased and completely renovated a landmark 1908 estate in Burlington. In the spring of 1989, it opened as the Hillcrest Inn & Carriage House Bed and Breakfast.
She also served as president of the Wisconsin State Bed & Breakfast Association. More recently, her natural creativity, vision and sense of color was evident in the many projects she completed in her interior design and remodeling business.
Her greatest loves were interior decorating, reading and playing bridge and golf with friends. She traveled extensively both for pleasure and humanitarian causes.
As a member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Brookfield for 35 years, Karen was active in many ways: Church Council, Worship Committee, Womenís Ministry, teaching Sunday school, and volunteering throughout the community. She was also active in 17 years at Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington.
Strong in her faith and spirit, we will miss her laughter and vibrant personality.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Fisher House (for Veterans), www.fisherhousewi.org, or to St. Johnís Memorial Garden would be appreciated.
A memorial visitation will be Sunday, February 28, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Johnís Lutheran Church, 20275 Davidson Road, Brookfield, with a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
