Bernice ‘Bee’ Brown

Bernice “Bee” Brown (nee Ladwig) passed away at home in Sedona Winds on February 15, 2016, at the age of 90 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harry W. Brown; their children, Prescott (Scott) H. Brown, James W. Brown and Pamela B. Brown; and her brothers, Walter E. Ladwig and Roy R. Ladwig.
Bernice is survived by three grandchildren, Heather (Josh) McSweeney of Oregon, Jeff (Heidi) Brown and Kristine (Chad) Ulik; four great-granddaughters, Monica, Julia, Rebekah and Mia; and daughter-in-law Kathy Brown, all of Hartford. Bernice also had many beloved extended family members including 11 nieces and nephews, 14 first cousins (all of Wisconsin) and many loving friends.
Bee was a former resident of Town of Vernon (rural Big Bend) for 25 years. Her cremains will be laid to rest in Sunnyside Cemetery in New Berlin.
Active hikers for decades with the Sedona Westerners, Bernice and Harry (who served as trail boss in 1984) were both honorary members of the hiking club. She was a past member of the Sedona Gem and Mineral Club; Archeology Society, Verde Valley Chapter; Sedona Camera Club; Audubon Society; and a supporter of the Sedona Library. Previously, Bernice also served on the Yavapai County Foster Care Review Board.
Bernice participated in many clubs and activities, but her passion was writing, especially for children. As a member of the Society of Children’s Bookwriters’ Association, she attended many writers’ conferences, and was active in a local writer’s critique group. She enjoyed editing for several published authors.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sedona Winds at 4pm on Sunday, April 17.
