Joyce M. Roberts (nee Knierim)

Joyce M. Roberts (nee Knierim) Joyce M. Roberts passed away peacefully at her home in Mukwonago on Monday, March 7, 2016, at the age of 79. Joyce was born on March 23, 1936 in Wauwatosa to her parents, Ralph F. and Myrtle M. (nee Steinke) Knierim. She grew up in the West Allis area, however, moved to the Town of Vernon in 1951, where her parents owned Knierim’s Kennels. Joyce raised, trained and showed dogs as well as competed in field trials. She graduated from Waukesha High School in 1955. Joyce became engaged to Donald J. Roberts on her 21st birthday. They married on Oct. 26, 1957, in Big Bend. Once married, they resided on the Roberts family farm until 1972. She drove school bus for Hank’s Transportation in Mukwonago for over 20 years. In addition, she worked for years for the Town Of Mukwonago to include weed commissioner and other duties for the town.

In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed and took pride in her yard and garden. She enjoyed her moped and motorcycling with friends, and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband enjoyed snowmobiling with their friends in the Mukwonago Sno-Snoops to include many snowmobiling trips, one of which took them to West Yellowstone for an unforgettable snowmobiling trip. Joyce was a member of the Mukwonago Sno-Snoops for over 40 years and rep for the Waukesha County Snowmobile Association for many years. In addition, they enjoyed many camping trips and traveling to a casino or two on occasion. She cherished her time she spent with her fellow high school classmates on their many lunches. Joyce enjoyed life in Wisconsin and all it had to offer.

Joyce is survived by her loving son, John of Mukwonago; niece Sam (Tom) Bahr of Waukesha; nephew Randy, and nephew Greg (Michele) of Colorado; goddaughter Carla (Alex) Mello of Fort Atkinson, as well as other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 58 years, Donald; her parents; three infant children; Marlene Ann, Mark Allen and Bonnie Lynn, brother Gordon Knierim; mother-in-law and father-inlaw Mary (nee Kerstein) and William Roberts.

Visitation will be Friday, March 11, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with service at 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, 930 Main St., Mukwonago, WI 53149. Private family burial will be held.

John would like to thank the staff of Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of West Allis for their excellent care, concern and compassion for Joyce as they assisted John in the final days. Their support will forever be appreciated! In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are appreciated.
