Richard D. Oberley
Nov. 25, 1932 — March 30, 2016

Richard D. Oberley of Waukesha died peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at his home following a short illness at age 83. He was born on Nov. 25, 1932, the son of Allen and Lura (nee Dickinson) Oberley. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. While in the service Richard started a church in Maryland which remains in existence today. On June 18, 1955 he married Nancy Ann Hankey; she preceded him in death on July 4, 2015. Richard was dedicated to his faith and along with his wife was a founding member of Waukesha First Assembly of God. An active member of the church, he enjoyed teaching Sunday School, was a deacon for 40 years, served as interim pastor, assisted with many construction projects and presided over church services at Waukesha Springs and Oak Hill Terrace for 30 years. Richard was a master woodworker but most of all he enjoyed being with his family.

He will be sadly missed by his children, Michael (Diane) Oberley of Elcho, Mark (Patty) Oberley of Milwaukee, and David (Tammy) Oberley of Eagle. He was the proud grandfather of Doug, Ashley, Jenny, Aaron, Peter, Brittany, and Joshua. He is further survived by his sisters and brother, Audrey Severson, Dona Buhrow, Barbara Kutz, Eugene (Elaine) Oberley and Janice (Don) Wakefield; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Hankey of Waukesha, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Carolynne.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the 12:00 p.m. funeral service at Waukesha First Assembly of God, 1314 S. Grand Avenue Waukesha, WI 53186. Pastor Todd Pope will preside. Full military honors will follow the service. Private burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorials are appreciated to the church, at the address above.
