Elissa Carole Spencer |
Jan. 8, 1935 ó April 11, 2016
A mother holds her childrenís hands for just a little while, but she holds their hearts forever. A truer statement there could not be, as we say our farewells to our mother and friend, Elissa Carole Spencer, who was granted rest by our Lord on Monday, April 11, at Angelís Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc after a valiant 13-year battle against cancer.
Eighty-one years young, mom was born Jan. 8, 1935, as Elissa Carole Hehner, and grew up in West Orange, NJ. Married in 1957 to our dad (Donald Cheesman, who passed January 2015), they moved to Wisconsin and started a new life. Six little hands later she is survived by her son Mark (wife, Marci, and their children Kurt, Kole, Nathanael, and Mason) and her daughters Lynne (husband, BJ, and their children Alex, Sam, and Mitchel) and Nancy (husband, Scott, and their pup Murray). Also by her side were friends of many years ó Angie, Linda, and Sandy. She was preceded by her parents, Leonard and Elsie Hehner.
Mom spent many years in school and business roles, but her calling was as Supermom. She found her happiest combination of career and caring as the assistant to the commandant at St. Johnís Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, where she watched over and worried (her specialty) for an entire corps of cadets for 11 years.
We love you, Mom; we will miss you ever so much, but we rejoice that you are now restored to health, reunited with dad, and awaiting us with ever open arms in His kingdom.
We are honored to share that St. Johnís Northwestern Military Academy will hold a memorial service on May 15 at 1 p.m., and we invite all who knew Elissa, as a friend or a mom, to join us there in celebration of her life on Earth.
