Betty Jane (Adams) Ziegler, age 91, of Canby, Ore., formerly of Jefferson, passed away at McLoughlin Place Senior Living Memory Care Center in Oregon City, Ore., on Dec. 28, 2015, after suffering a debilitating stroke ten

days earlier. Betty was born on Sept. 4, 1924, in Waukesha, to Charles and Hannah (nee Roberts) Adams. She was the eighth born of nine children. She graduated from Waukesha High School in 1942. She then attended and graduated from the Milwaukee Business Secretarial College with an emphasis in shorthand. After graduation, she enlisted in the U.S.

Army/Air Forces as a shorthand specialist to a general (Intelligence Group) at the Pentagon during World War II, serving for nearly two years.

She married Robert Alphonse Ziegler on June 5, 1948, in Jefferson. They made their life in Jefferson and had three sons. He preceded her in death in 1980. After marriage, Betty worked at WFAW radio station co-anchoring the noon talk farm hour in Fort Atkinson. She retired from Stoppenbach Meats (formerly Jefferson Meats) after 20 years where she was an executive assistant to John Bauch. After retirement Betty and her treasured friend, Lil Buske, volunteered at St. Vincent’s Thrift Store for many years.

For those who knew Betty knew she embraced life with enthusiasm and gusto.

She was most proud of her Welsh heritage, her family, numerous friends and representing her city as the Gemuetlichkeit Days Queen of 1972. She loved life, socializing, traveling and meeting new people of all ages. If there was music and a dance floor — Betty was on it!

She is survived by her three sons: Brad (Nancy) of Hollywood, S.C., Mark of Madison Heights, Mich, and Mitch (Roberta) of Canby, Ore.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Robert, David, Reinhold (Red), Franklin, William and Edward Adams; two sisters, Margaret Kennedy, Mary Osiol; and one grandchild, Carey Ann Ziegler.

Canby Funeral Chapel, Canby, Ore., and Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha, assisted the family with arrangements. Visit to leave an online tribute.
