Frederick ‘Fred’ Urban Ruekert
June 16, 1952 — June 30, 2016

Lifelong resident of Waukesha died at the age of 64 years, on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at home surrounded and comforted by his wife, children and brother.

He died from early onset Alzheimer’s disease, with which he struggled for 11 years. He was born the son of Frank and Mabel (Lemitz) Ruekert on June 16, 1952.

After graduating with honors from the University of Notre Dame with an engineering degree and a receiving a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he returned to Waukesha. He worked 25 years as a civil engineer for Ruekert-Mielke, serving Wisconsin municipalities. Fred was also involved in giving back to the community. Most notable, Fred coached grade school basketball for almost 30 years at Waukesha Catholic, where he and all of his children attended.

Fred will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Irene (nee Stern) of 41 years; his beloved children, Lisa (Robert) Gehl of Waukesha, Tom (Katie) Ruekert of Castle Rock, Colo., Katie (Spike) Nelson of Onalaska, David (Ashley) Ruekert of Spring, Texas, Dan (Amanda) Ruekert of Brookfield and Kristin Ruekert of Waukesha; and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Alexis, Avalon, Ayden, Eric, Tenzin, and Nolan. He is further survived by his brother, the Rev. Thomas Ruekert, S.D.B; sister, Cecelia (Richard) Cook; sisters-in-law, Kay (Peter) Ruekert Lettenberger, Kathy (Dave) Quint and brother-inlaw, Patrick (Patricia) Stern; other relatives and many friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brother Frank; and in-laws Harold and Kathleen Stern.

The visitation for Fred will be held on Thursday, July 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:45 p.m. at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. A second visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. with the Mass of Christian burial at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 225 S.

Hartwell, Waukesha. The Rev. Thomas Ruekert will be officiating with Rev. Howard Haase concelebrating. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Waukesha. The family requests no flowers, instead, memorials are appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Waukesha County.
