Kathryn D. Rickards-Davidson (nee Hoover)
Kathy D. Rickards-Davidson (nee Hoover) of Waukesha died peacefully in Austin, Minn., on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at age 73.
Kathy was born to parents Lester and Ruth Hoover (nee Sayles) on October 27, 1942, in Waukesha. She attended Hadfield Elementary, Central Middle and Waukesha South high schools. While attending nursing school in Milwaukee in 1962, she married Lin Rickards and moved back to Waukesha.
In 1967, Kathy began volunteering at Lowell Elementary School in Waukesha and after four years, she became the school secretary, a position she held for 33 years. Kathy spent many years as an active member of the congregation at Waukesha Bible Church. She sang in the choir and often played piano during services. After retiring in 2004, Kathy and Lin moved to Lantana, Texas, where they enjoyed spending time with family, attending church and visiting with friends. Kathy was a devoted caregiver for Lin until his death in 2009.
In 2012, Kathy married Donald Davidson (of Waukesha) in Maui, Hawaii, and moved to Austin, Minn., where they lived on the Davidson family farm. She and Don enjoyed visiting with friends and family, attending church and traveling. For the past two years, they spent the winter months at Bibleville near McAllen, Texas. While short in time on the calendar, the years Kathy spent with Don were some of the happiest she had known.
Despite her own health challenges for many years, Kathy was generous with her time, always ready to offer a helping hand, a gentle word or sympathetic ear. She was strong, resilient, patient and most of all a true lady. Her love for our Lord Jesus was without question. She was living proof that our strength comes from God as it was her faith that kept her going all these years. Those who knew her know that heaven has gained a bright star.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Donald Davidson of Austin, Minn.; her son, Mark (Kim) Rickards of Double Oak, Texas; her daughter, Cathylynne (Paul “Buzz”) Erickson (grandchildren Cody and Carston) of Coon Rapids, Minn.; her sister, Marjorie (William) Field of Broken Arrow, Okla.; brother David (Linda) Hoover of West Allis; step-children Dennis (Gwen) Davidson (step-grandchildren Andrew Wendt, Kathryn and Elizabeth); Debra (Cecil) Berlie (step-grandchildren Nathan and Aaron); along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Linford Rickards, and her parents, Les and Ruth Hoover.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 am July 14 at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Austin, Minn., followed by lunch at noon and interment at Oakwood Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kathy’s name are appreciated at Shepherds Ministry, 1805 15th Ave., Union Grove, WI 53182 (or at www.shepherdsministries.org).
