Marie A. Croegaert
May 6, 1936 — July 3, 2016

Marie A. Croegaert of Waukesha (nee Birmingham) lost her battle with cancer on July 3, 2016, and went home to heaven peacefully, surrounded by her family. In death, she is reunited with her loving husband Blair (Bud), son Scott and granddaughter Nicole.

The fifth child of Ida Seiberlich and Edward Birmingham, Marie was born May 6, 1936, in Milwaukee. She and Bud married on January 28, 1956, at St. Matthews Church, Milwaukee. They were blessed with six children, whom Marie touted proudly but often shook her head, nonetheless.

She was the mother of Brian (Michele Fobart), Scott (Carol Doornek), Kevin (Shari Olinski), Susan (Andre) Maue, Kristi (Tim) Last and Kerri (Dave) Beck. With joy, the next generation of Marie’s family includes 17 grandchildren: Caitlin (Rob Koch), Keleen (Daniel) Kaye and Kyle Croegaert; Danielle and Jonathan Croegaert; Lindsay Croegaert; Holly Hayes, Kelsi (Jason) Swartout, Shelby, Derek, Trevor and Ashley Maue; Rhea, Mari, Sabrina and Tyler Last; and Nicole Beck. She is also great-grandmother (GiGi) to Jackson and Kendall Kaye.

Never settling for a dull moment, Marie and Bud gave generously of themselves, caring for 33 foster babies from birth to adoption. Though not named here, each remained in Marie’s heart even as they grew to adulthood with their adoptive families.

Marie discovered genealogy and coaxed Bud through cemeteries and churches throughout the Midwest in search of family ties. Late in life, she shared her passion for genealogy and posted the information she had collected for others to enjoy.

Marie had a feisty Irish soul and German sense of purpose. Her parents would have been proud. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served on her local condominium board. She was a member of the Christmas Clearing Council for many years, was an avid bowler and loved to travel. She was retired from Waukesha County Technical College.

Marie is survived by four siblings Robert, Frank (Lucille Hessling), Denis (Kandy Perry) and Dolores (Brian) Williams.

She is predeceased by her sister Yvonne Meuer, brother-in-law Jerry Meuer, and sister-in-law Marie Sadler Birmingham.

Visitation will be at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha, from 10am to 12pm on July 7, with a service at 12pm. Burial to follow immediately at St. Joseph Cemetery in Waukesha.

In lieu of flowers, Marie requested that all memorials be sent to St. Joseph Medical Clinic in Waukesha or St. Vincent De Paul.
