Elmer J. Norris
Elmer J. Norris of Waukesha, formerly of Alamogordo, N.M., was born to eternal life June 30, 2016, at age 94.
He was a retired computer programmer, a former high school teacher, and a former moving man. He was a former member and ordained ruling elder of First Presbyterian Church in Alamogordo and their selection for delegate from Pecos Valley Presbytery to General Assembly in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1963. He served two terms as moderator of Pecos Valley Presbytery. He was a delegate to a Presbyterian Peacemaking Conference in New York City.
Elmer was a “rockhound” and made jewelry, including a heart that won Craftsman of the Month from Rock and Gem Magazine in May 1974. He was a lifetime member of American Council of the Blind. He taught chess at the Boys and Girls Club and at Chaparral Junior High School in Alamogordo.
Survivors include children Elizabeth (Thomas) Hoffmann, David (Melinda) Norris and M. Allen (Cathy) Norris; stepdaughters Linda Richardson, Tracy Bell, Trella Bell and Kristine Boykin; grandchildren Dan (Kathy) Hoffmann, Deborah Porter, Megan Norris and Christopher Norris; and great-grandchildren Eli, Ava, Adelyn Hoffmann and Colton and Jacob Porter. He is further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Norris; son James Norris; wife, Edith C. Norris; wife, Wanda J. Norris; and sister Evangeline Best.
Visitation for Elmer will be held on Wednesday, July 27, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1415 Dopp St., Waukesha, WI 53188, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the 5:00 p.m. funeral service. His cremains will be placed in the Columbarium at St. John Episcopal Church in Alamogordo, N.M. Memorials to Ghost Ranch, U.S. Highway 84, Abiquiu, NM 87510; Ascension Lutheran Church, Waukesha; LindenGrove Foundation, Waukesha; Waukesha Memorial Hospital Foundation; Seasons Hospice Foundation, Waukesha; or charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
