Nic Curtis Counsell

Nic Curtis Counsell, age 82, of Ixonia, was called to his eternal rest on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at his home with family by his side.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pat (nee Koeppler) Counsell; daughter Kim (Joseph) Krueger; granddaughter Karah (Fred) Pugh; great-granddaughters Kennedy Pat and Kressa Preslee Pugh; grandson Nic (Dana) Streich; great-granddaughters Hannah Mae and Addison Rose Streich; granddaughter Kailey-Jo (Dustin) Gruling; great-granddaughter Katie Scarlett Hanus-Krueger and great-grandson Jack Joseph Gruling; grandson Clint (Rachel Ragan) Krueger; daughter Kathy Lynn Counsell, who preceded him in death on July 12, 1994; granddaughter, Karissa (Tyler) Kangas; great-grandson Kade Crispin Kangas; daughter Karla (Brian) Christian; grandson Blayne (Jessica) Essmann; great-granddaughters, Brynn Leighann and Olivia Grey Essmann; granddaughter Kandice Essmann; great-granddaughter Kaylin Grace Essmann; grandson Troy Essmann; granddaughter Kenzie Essmann; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Nic was preceded in death by his daughter Kathy Lynn Counsell; his parents, A. Earl and Louise Counsell; his father-and-mother-in-law, Leo and Eliza Koeppler; his brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Charlotte Counsell; his sister and brother-in-law, Mardene and Dean Luck; sister-in-law Fran Jolly; and nephews Charles and Glenn Counsell.
Nic was born in Mapleton on June 10, 1934, to A. Earl and Louise (nee Tesky) Counsell. He was baptized on September 3, 1943, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merton. He attended Mapleton Grade School. Nic was confirmed on March 21, 1948, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Oconomowoc. He graduated from Oconomowoc Senior High School on June 5, 1952.
On Saturday, July 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Pat at the Watertown Moravian Church by the Rev. Victor L. Thomas. Nic was a member of Ebenezer Moravian Church in Watertown.
In 1955, Nic started his first business, a can milk route picking up milk at local farms and delivering to Pabst Farms in Oconomowoc. After two years, the industry changed and he started a bulk milk route. He ran bulk milk to Pabst Farms for 20 years.
Nic then went to work at Wis Pak in Watertown, driving semi for seven years before becoming an owner operator of Nic Counsell Trucking, putting semis on at Wis Pak. His semis and business with Wis Pak was truly his pride and passion. He retired in February 2012.
Nic loved NASCAR and attending the Indy 500 and Brick Yard 400 races. He had a passion for all kinds of racing including go-carts, midgets and snowmobiles.
Nic had a true love of the Green Bay Packers.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Moravian Church, N8095 High Road, Watertown, with the Rev. Sanette Francis officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A private family burial will be held at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Ebenezer Moravian Church, Ixonia Volunteer Fire Department, Ixonia Food Pantry or the charity of one’s choice.
