Victor P. Nickeas
Aug. 20, 1949 – June 23, 2016
Victor P. Nickeas of Waukesha passed away on June 23, 2016, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital of pneumonia. Victor is greatly missed by his family especially his best friend and sister, Evonne, along with many friends. Victor is especially and deeply missed by the friends he called family during the time he volunteered at Richard’s Place over the past 18 years in Waukesha.
At 66 years of age, Victor touched many lives in many different ways. Victor was a genuinely caring and compassionate person. He had a big heart for people — especially for those who struggled in their lives just as he did. Even though Victor struggled on and off with addiction he had many periods of sobriety that he was so proud of until the “demon of addiction” as he called it took over again like it does to so many people with the illness of alcohol or drug abuse.
Victor took the role on of making people feel at ease by welcoming and engaging them in conversation. He had a passion for life and an infectious smile that lit up a room. The questions that he asked of people gave proof to the interest that he had in other people’s lives. He not only asked “How are you today?” but also how each member of your family was. It was extremely important for Victor to try and educate young people by his own living proof of the damage and pain addiction causes not only the addict but relationships with family and friends.
A memorial service along with celebrating the time we had with Victor is being held this Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at the E.B. Shurts park pavilion 810 W. College Ave. in Waukesha from 1:30 p.m. — to 3:30 p.m. A donation to Richard’s Place in Victor’s memory can be sent to Richard’s Place, P.O. Box 294, Waukesha, WI 53187.
