Donald E. Schlender

Donald E. Schlender, age 91, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Watertown.
Don was born on June 6, 1925, in the Town of Summit, the son of John and Lillian (nee Wenzel) Schlender.
He married Charlotte Rundt on March 10, 1948, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Don and Charlotte rented his parents farm in the Oconomowoc area. In 1956, they purchased their own farm in the Watertown area. He was a devoted farmer and hard worker until he retired. The good Lord blessed him well and provided him a loving family and a productive farm. Don was a great businessman and dealer in cattle. He was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Watertown and rarely missed a Sunday service. He enjoyed bowling and playing sheepshead.
Don was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He loved farming and gardening, especially tending to his gladiolus and fruit trees.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; two daughters, Annette (Ron) Benninger of Reeseville and Ellen Bohn of Watertown; two sons, Dennis (Val) Schlender of Mount Horeb and Duane (Mary) Schlender of Holmen; 12 grandchildren; as well as 20 great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Neil Schlender; parents; brother Karl Schlender; as well as sister Lucille Mueller.
Funeral services will be held today, September 22, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Anthony Schultz and Rev. Mark Gartner officiating. Burial is at Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown.
Family and friends may gather at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church or Lakeside Lutheran High School.
