Peter Hernandez of Waukesha, born May 28, 1944, in Waukesha, was born to eternal life at Seasons Hospice-IPU, Waukesha, on Monday, October 17, 2016, at the age of 72 years. He was the beloved husband of Roxane (nee Kienast); cherished brother of Paul (Diane) Hernandez; dear brother-in-law of Nancy Hernandez; dear stepbrother of Mary Martinez and Ray Martinez; and stepfather of Kelly (Mark) Winkelman, Katie (Kurt) Nettesheim, Danielle DeHut (Stanley) and Daidrian Siereveld. Peter will also be loved and missed by his niece Henrietta (David) Long, as well as many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sacarias and Jean (nee Vasquez) Hernandez; brother Robert Hernandez; sister Gloria (the late Samuel) Saenz; and his nephew Christopher Saenz.
Peter was a proud decorated veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. During his time in the Army, Peter received the Parachutist Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Bronze Star Medal with V Device. He was a teacher, mentor and coach. He was one of the original co-founders of LaCasa.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Seasons Hospice IPU for the loving care given to Peter during his final days.
There will be a time of gathering of Sunday, October 23, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha). Family eulogies to follow at 5:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family appreciated.
