Donald R. Serres

March 17, 1932 — Nov. 11, 2016

Donald R. Serres of Merton was born to eternal life on Friday, November 11, 2016, at the age of 84 years. He was born on March 17, 1932, the son of Benjamin and Ethel (nee Bergles) Serres.

Donald married Carolyn Held on April 8, 1961. Donald owned and operated the Merton Feed Mill. He was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church of Merton. He was a member of the Merton Fire Department for 51 years, village of Merton treasurer, trustee and village president. He was one of the founding members of the Merton Amvets and took pride in being a member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard 128th AC& W. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening and watching wild life, especially wild birds. Donald was also an avid sports fan of the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, Bucks, his grandchildren and all of their activities. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his daughter Diane. Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Donald will be dearly missed by his wife, Carolyn (nee Held); children, Greg (Michelle) Serres, Julie (André) Ofori-Mattmüller, Jeanne (Tom) Seidl and Diane Serres; grandchildren, Benjamin, Emma and Abigale Serres, Katherine, Madeline, Alexander Ofori-Mattmüller, and Andrew (Samantha), Stephanie and Charles Seidl; and one soon-to-be great-grandson. He is further survived by his sisters, Marjorie Ostrander and Betty (Gary) Gilbertson; aunt, Alice Cebrowski; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The first visitation for Donald will be held on Friday, November 18, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Merton, N65-W28217 Hickory Hill Drive, Merton, WI 53056. The second visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Merton. The Rev. Darrel Schrock will be officiating. Burial with military honors will immediately follow the service at the Lisbon Merton Union Cemetery.
