Guillermo ‘Gorilla’ Tamez |
April 30, 1934 – Jan. 5, 2017
Early last Thursday morning at the age of 82, Guillermo Tamez joined his beloved wife, Valentina, to dance in heaven. Born in Laredo, Texas, he worked various jobs such as milking cows, milk delivery, cotton picking and farm management. He migrated to Sussex, working at a cannery, where he met the love of his life, Valentina Cervantes. During their 53 years of marriage, they raised 10 children in Waukesha. Guillermo retired from Quality Aluminum Casting Company after 30-plus years of employment where he worked as a foreman.
With his strong and powerful presence, he lived up to his nickname, “Gorilla.” Though he was a force to be reckoned with, Guillermo was a very charismatic man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bonfires and pig roasts with his family and friends telling stories about his younger years.
Guillermo is survived by his children, Juanita Gonzales, Concepcion Medina, Josephina Dietscher, Gloria Tamez, Dora (John) Wonders, Salvador (Gail) Tamez, Pearl Tamez, Manuel (Debbie) Tamez, Theresa (Jerry) Wonders- Tamez, Tony, Margarita Tamez (Scott Feldt), Santiago Tamez and their families. He had 18-plus grandchildren and seven-plus great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Abraham and his sister Gloria, along with numerous family and friends.
Guillermo is preceded in death by his loving wife, Valentina Tamez; his parents Concepcion Lopez and Salvador Alfonso Tamez; and his son Felix.
At Guillermo’s request, there will be no funeral services or memorial.
