Margaret L. MetcalfeMargaret Louise Metcalfe (Wandsnider) passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017. She was born on Dec. 1, 1935, in Menomonee Falls. She grew up in Brookfield and attended Waukesha High School, Racine Kenosha Teachers College, UW-Whitewater and UW Extension.

Margaret taught elementary school in Brookfield. She was united in marriage to Vernon Thomas Metcalfe on Aug. 3, 1958. Together they raised four wonderful children. Through the years, Margaret was involved in Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, WHA Auction fundraisers and served on the Monona Library Foundation Board.

Margaret worked with her husband, Tom, for many years in the family grocery business.

She was the co-founder of the World’s Largest Brat Fest and worked for Olbrich Botanical Gardens for 20 years, retiring in 2011. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her four children, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She led an active and exciting life, which usually involved traveling, reading, biking, skiing, boating, golfing, walking, doing puzzles, playing the piano and spending time with her Bible study friends and the coffee group.

Margaret is survived by her children, Mary Metcalfe, Tammy (Steve) Johnson, Tim Metcalfe and Kevin (Tina) Metcalfe; grandchildren, Kameo Renaud (Lichtfeld), Vernon (Ashley) Johnson, Courtney Johnson, Zach Johnson, Maggie Johnson, Amanda Metcalfe, Allie (Mario) Millonzi, Nikky Zimbrick, Ella Zimbrick, Jordyn Metcalfe, Kian Metcalfe and Lincoln Metcalfe; great-grandchildren, Emerson Johnson and Zoe Millonzi; sister, Patricia Mayer; and dear friend, Bob Dott.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas; brothers, Bill and Dick Wandsnider; and daughter-in-law, Julie Bush Metcalfe.

Funeral services will be held at Blackhawk Church, 9620 Brader Way, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23. Visitation will be held at Gunderson East Funeral & Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, and at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Olbrich Botanical Society.
