WAUKESHA

Elizabeth B. Jorgensen
June 29, 1934 — March 12, 2017

Elizabeth (Betsy) Jorgensen of Waukesha passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the age of 82. She was born June 29, 1934, to the late Henry and Elizabeth (Hartmann) Wagener in Waconia, Minn., and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing, Madison, in 1955.

Betsy married the love of her life, Donald H. Jorgensen, on June 9, 1956. They began their life together in Madison and moved to Waukesha in 1961.

Betsy was a caring and kindhearted person who was employed as a registered nurse in the obstetrics department at Waukesha Memorial Hospital for 24 years. Betsy was passionate about her work and felt blessed to experience the joy brought by new life. Betsy was generous with her time, volunteering for 4-H and the St. Mary’s Grade School, where she could often be found in the health room or maintaining order on the playground. Betsy belonged to the Oakdale Homemakers for many years and sincerely appreciated the friendships and support of its thoughtful members.

Betsy loved the outdoors and could name every woodland flower and tree on her 10-acre Waukesha homestead. She enjoyed working in her expansive garden and could preserve enough food to feed her large family over the long Wisconsin winters. In her later years, Betsy became an avid reader, pouring through every article in three newspapers each day.

Betsy was a purely good person and was loved by all who knew her well. She was an amazing mother to her children, an adoring (and adored) grandmother, and a loving and faithful wife of nearly 61 years.

Betsy is survived by her husband, Don; her five children, John Jorgensen (Yan Peng) of Tucson, Ariz., Elizabeth J. Jorgensen, Jim Jorgensen of Alta Loma, Calif., Carol Jorgensen-Vakil (Nimish Vakil) of Waukesha and Krista Holmi (Douglas) of Marlborough, Mass.; and her seven grandchildren, Sibel and Seren Aydemir, Lauren Jorgensen, Nina and Niklas Vakil and Louisa and Annelise Holmi. She is also survived by her siblings, Arthur Wagener (Barbara) of St. Bonifacius, Minn., Irene (the late Frank) Staiger of Port Huron, Mich., Morrie (the late Ginny) Wagener of Wayzata, Minn., Marie (Richard ) Wynsteker of Battle Lake, Minn., Henry Wagener of Garrison, Minn., and Florence Wagener of New York, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Father Clarence Wagener, S. J., and Dolores (the late Dean) Gaffaney.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Virginia Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha for their compassionate care and comfort.

Betsy’s wishes were for family and friends to celebrate her life in their own special way.
