Barbara L. Miller
Feb. 1, 1927 — March 11, 2017
Barbara L. Miller (nee O’Callaghan), age 90, celebrated her first day in heaven on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Barb was born to John and Mildred O’Callaghan on February 1, 1927, in Milwaukee.
She was blessed to be married to Dr. G. Daniel Miller on June 19, 1954. They lived out their marriage promise to each other every day for 60 years, raising their eight children together.
Barb was a woman of great faith, and she believed strongly in living out the love of God in everyday life. Many organizations, families and individuals benefited from her generosity with her time, talent and treasure, most notably St. Jerome’s Parish of Oconomowoc (where she was a member of the choir for 38 years and started the children’s liturgical program), AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, The Adult Literacy Center at St. Galls in Milwaukee, and River Edge and Retzer Nature Centers.
Beyond the boundaries of Wisconsin, Barb also contributed her time at the St. Jude’s Mission Hospital in St. Lucia, Lesser Antilles.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; her parents, John and Mildred; and her sister Mary Kay Burns.
She is survived by her children, Catherine (Mark) Miller-Temme of Medford, Mary Beth (Michael) McKee of Butler, Peggy (Tony) Haddad of Slinger, Daniel (Lee Ann Hill) of Morgantown, W.Va., Nancy Esveld of Fall River, Michael (Sue Fox) of Menomonee Falls, Rick (Carri Hren) of New Berlin and Becky Miller of New Berlin, and 20 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Jim O’Callaghan of New Zealand.
Barb’s greatest hope in life was to see her eight children graduate from college and love each other, all of which came to fruition. She also wanted to be remembered for her love of God, her love of family and her love of her Irish heritage.
Funeral service will be held at St. Jerome’s Church in Oconomowoc on Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m., with visitation taking place on Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jerome’s (either the Building Fund or the Adult Literacy Center) or AngelsGrace Hospice.
