John Eric Evans
John Eric Evans, 90, of Menomonee Falls, succumbed to cancer on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the Kathy Hospice in West Bend.
John is survived by his three daughters, Carole Nemec (Jeff) of Oconomowoc, Audrey Buschman of Menomonee Falls, and Barbara Evans of Menomonee Falls, and granddaughters Samantha Buschman and Amy Buschman. He is also survived by his niece Helen (Philip) Carcas of Andover, England, and her two daughters Joanna (David) Ward of Basingstoke, England, and Emma Carcas of London, England.
John was happily married for 39 years to Kathleen (Kit) (Scott) until her passing in 1992. He was remarried to Joyce (Suddarth) in 1995 and although divorced (2008) still continued a long-distance relationship.
Born in Kingston upon Thames, a borough in London, England and raised from the age of 5 in Andover, a town in the English county of Hampshire, John moved to Canada in 1952 for work as a carpenter. After meeting his wife Kit, they moved to the United States (Wisconsin) in 1954 then retired to Arizona in 1985. John moved back to Wisconsin in 2008 to be with family.
John was a strong, courageous man with a passion for his family and loved ones as well as bicycling.
The love of bicycling started early in life as he and his father, Charles, rode from northern to southern England. He also rode from Arizona to Florida at the age of 70.
John held the state record for time trials in Arizona for five years and Wisconsin for six years and was overall winner in the World Senior Games in St. George, Utah, in 1987, 1989, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1998.
Although his road biking ended as a result of a fall in which he broke his neck, being unstoppable, he continued with spinning classes at the Prescott, Ariz., YMCA.
A private family service will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, make donations in Johnís name to the Washington County Humane Society:http://www.wchspets.org/donate-online/.
