Nancy L. Gilbert of Waukesha passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Angels-Grace Hospice at the age of 76 years and 11 months. She was born in Milwaukee on June 22, 1940, the daughter of Leander and Ruth (nee Hickey) Martens.

Nancy was a 1958 graduate of Nicolet High School and began working for the City of Milwaukee as a secretary for Juvenile and Probate Court. She married the love of her life, Jerry Gilbert, on July 2, 1966, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They lived in Milwaukee until 1973, when they built their home in Waukesha. She was a stay-at-home mom until she began working at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church and School and later at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church as a secretary. She was an avid Packers fan, animal lover, and enjoyed baking, crafts, genealogy, and Elvis music.

Above all, Nancy loved spending time with her family and was active as a band parent and with school activities.

She will be missed by her husband, Gerhard N. "Jerry" Gilbert; daughters, Jodi Gilbert, Heidi (Steven) Haw, and Jaimie Gilbert; grandchildren, Fai Haw, Gilbert Haw, Lillian Haw; brother, Roger Martens; and sister, Jane Cowal. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Leander and Ruth, and her brother-in-law, Robert Cowal.

The visitation for Nancy will be held on Friday, May 26, from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1941 Madison St., Waukesha, WI 53188. The funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. The Rev. Michael Turriff will be officiating. The burial will take place on Saturday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Milwaukee.
