John D. ‘Jack’ Curtis
John D. "Jack" Curtis, 85, of Springfield, Ill., died at 3:20 p.m.
Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born October 4, 1931, in Winona, Minn., to Donald and Margaret Sontag Curtis.
He married Joyce A. Wenneker on February 12, 1982, and she survives.
Also surviving are three children, Fred (Jake) Curtis of Toledo, Ohio, Mike Curtis of Kansas City, Mo., and Elizabeth (Christopher) Cullen of Rochester, Ill.; one daughter-in-law, Maria Curtis of Kansas City, Mo.; two stepchildren, Julie (Dave) Johnson of Springfield, Ill., and Jeri Wenneker of St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Jared (Lauren) Cullen, Jordan Cullen, Jacob Cullen, Jonas Cullen, Ryan Curtis, Michael Curtis, Breann (AJ) Nevins and Brittney (Scott) Snider; five great-grandchildren, Brayden Cullen, Simon Cullen, Baylee Nevins, Lennyn Nevins and JD Snider; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Curtis; and sister, Joan Miller.
Jack was a 1952 graduate of Hamlin University in Minnesota and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
Jack was a resident of Springfield for the past twoand- half years, living previously in Glendale. He retired from Diamond Vogel Paints in Milwaukee. Jack was a member of Theta Thi fraternity, Toastmasters International, the Elks Club and Kiwanis Club.
A memorial gathering will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today, June 1, at Staab Funeral Home– Springfield. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
