Duane Glenn Paswaters
June 5, 1933 — July 2, 2017

Duane Glenn Paswaters Duane Glenn Paswaters, 84, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, with his family at his side.

He was born June 5, 1933, in Raymond, Neb., the oldest of six boys to Glenn and Clara (nee Schnitter) Paswaters. It was on the family farm that he learned his hard work ethic, and started his love of John Deere tractors.

On June 21, 1969, he married the former Sandy Ullrich at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc. In 1973, they built their forever home in Lebanon, where they raised their daughters and made lifelong friends.

Duane worked for the Dodge County Highway Department for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He then worked part time as a custodian at Meadowview School in Oconomowoc. He served in the United States Army, and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2260 in Oconomowoc. He was a faithful and active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lebanon, serving on various church boards over the years. He was also a former member of the Lebanon Fire Department.

He enjoyed restoring 2cylinder John Deere tractors. He was most proud of his 1929 Model A Ford, which he also restored. He loved going to his grandchildren’s various school activities and cheering them on at sporting events.

His two great-granddaughters brought him much joy.

In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Sandy, and his good friends Dale and Caroline Maas, Harlan and Linda Uttech, and John and Pat Tesch. He always enjoyed the special friendship he had with Shirley and the late Martin Zwieg, and Willie and the late Judy Oschmann.

The love and support that was shown to Duane and his family over the last year is greatly appreciated by the family. The family would also like to thank his caregivers, Judy Kehl, Kelly Mallow and Debbie Fischer, and the caring staff at AngelsGrace Hospice.

Duane is survived by his loving and caring wife of 48 years, Sandy; two daughters, Kimberly (Troy) Gorniak of Marshall and Julie (Andy) Fincutter of Watertown; six grandchildren, Ashley and Taylor Liesener, Ethan and Andrea Gorniak, and Hailey and Brady Fincutter; two great-granddaughters, Keira and Avery; his brothers, Robert (Margaret), Charles (Dorothy), and David (Sharyl) Paswaters, all of Colorado; and his sister-inlaw, Sally Paswaters of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Glenn and James; in-laws Hiram and Florence Ullrich; and brother-in-law Floyd Gartzke.

Duane will be sadly missed by his family and those who knew him.

Funeral services for Duane will be held on Saturday, July 8, at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lebanon with the Rev. Douglas Bergelin officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial, with military graveside rites, will take place at the parish cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be directed to the church or AngelsGrace Hospice.
