Larry Kelsey
April 3, 1942 Oct. 15, 2016

Larry KelseyLawrence John (Larry) Kelsey Jr., 74, passed away on October 15, 2016, after nearly a year in a persistent vegetative state following a fall from a roof in November 2015. He is survived by his mother, Meryl; sister, Kay Janssen; children Blake and Nicole Kelsey and Kirsten Schmitt; and grandchildren Andrew, Julia and Garret Kelsey.

He was preceded in death by his father, John, and brother Tim.

Born April 3, 1942, Larry grew up in North Prairie and attended grade school at the one-room Palestine School before graduating from Mukwonago High School. He served in the Navy for four years during the Vietnam War on the aircraft carriers Kitty Hawk and Constellation, and spent a number of years living in Colorado before returning to his home town.

A carpenter like his father, Larry was gifted in creative building, with a knack for bringing out the simple beauty of wood. A voracious reader and lover of words, Larry also enjoyed composing his own short stories and poetry, though perhaps his greatest joy was in singing, and he was never long in finding a church choir wherever he resided, even when it was a temporary stay. Whether woodwork, stories or songs, Larry was always willing and eager to offer his skills to and share his talents with friends and loved ones.

Longtime choir mates will sing him home at a graveside service in the North Prairie Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, followed by a luncheon in Pewaukee at noon.
