Barbara Picago Duerwachter

Barbara (nee Picago) Duerwachter, age 77, of Waukesha, died on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care after a brief battle with cancer. She was born January 7, 1940, in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Dominic and Mary (nee Masalski) Picago.

Barbara graduated in 1958 from Divine Savior High School and went on to graduate from Lewis University (formally Lewis College) in Romeoville, Ill. Barbara settled into a career in accounting and retired from The Howard Company in 1998. Most of all, she will be remembered for sharing her love of books, reading and crossword puzzles.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert Duerwachter of Waukesha; son Mark (Anna) Duerwachter of Pewaukee; Beth (Steve) Tewes of Muskego; Paul (Monica) Duerwachter of Muskego; nine grandchildren, Laura and fiance Michael, Karri and fiance David, Bradley and companion Hayley, Ryan, Valerie and Alec, Evan, Mason and Lauren; her brother Richard Picago and his companion Barbara Finkler; and niece Sara Smith.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dominic and Mary Picago; her sister Marilyn Picago Smith; brother in-law Jimmy Lee Smith; and nephew Samuel Smith.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 21, at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s name may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, 818 W. Sunset Drive, Waukesha, WI 53189.
