Dr. H. Franklin Grunske

Frank climbed the stairway to heaven after a short stay at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 82. He fought spinocerebellar ataxia courageously for many years. Frank was born in the Town of Summit on April 28, 1935, the son of Herman and Elsie Grunske.

He graduated valedictorian from Hartland High School, Class of 1953. Frank served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy from 1953 until 1955 when he entered Marquette University. He graduated from the Marquette Dental School in 1961. Frank completed his residency in oral maxillofacial surgery in 1965. He joined Dr. F. Allen Ledward in his Waukesha practice and played an integral role in the growth of the practice until his retirement in 1993.

During his career, Frank held multiple leadership roles in Waukesha County and state dental societies.

He was on the faculty of Marquette University Dental School. Throughout his life, he volunteered in numerous charitable organizations. Frank was a charter member of the Waukesha Memorial Hospital Foundation.

In 1957, Frank married the love of his life, Marianne Reukema, and their 60th anniversary is November 30. He was a proud father of his two daughters, Laurie and Dianna. He treasured nothing more than spending time with his six grandchildren. Frank was fortunate to be able to travel the world with his wife and friends.

One of his favorite trips was traveling to England on the Queen Elizabeth II and returning on the Concorde.

Frank enjoyed vacationing in Door County on Europe Lake and relished and cared for Godís creations at his home on Deerwood Farm.

He was an avid Marquette University basketball fan.

Frank was not a cook, but he knew how to make reservations and loved spending time with friends and family sharing a delicious meal. He cherished his friends and thought of them as his extended family.

Frank will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Marianne; children, Laurie Grunske, MD (Andrew Kim, MD) and Dianna Goldman, JD (James Goldman, JD); and grandchildren, Mary Liz and Noah Kim, Carson, Hope, Amanda, and Katherine Goldman. He is further survived by his brother, Stanley (Cherie) Grunske, many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Elsie, and parents-in-law, Curtis and Lillian Reukema.

The visitation for Frank will be held at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188 on Saturday, November 25, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. noon funeral Mass. The Rev. Dennis Saran will be officiating.
