Walter A. Pontell Jr.

Walter A. Pontell Jr., born December 13, 1935, to Walter Sr. and Cyrilla Pontell, passed away in the company of friends on September 30, 2017.

He grew up in East Troy and graduated from East Troy High School in 1954.

Walt lived every moment to its fullest. His career spanned 45 years of service at Waukesha Engine; at 20 years old he started in the machine shop, and eventually became a field service engineer where he traveled the world. Walt was inducted into the Great Lakes Dragway Hall of Fame in 2010. His hobbies included boating, motorcycle riding, flying his powered parachute, coin collecting and refinishing antiques. Walt was well known around southern Wisconsin for his abilities as a mechanic. Even to his death, he still consulted for Waukesha Engine and was active in the historical museum there. He kept in contact with classmates organizing many fish fries and get togethers. He could often be found at car shows and swap meets around the area, always looking for something new to putz with.

He was father to five daughters: Sherry Pontell, Vicki Pontell, Cindy (Eugene) Semrad, Julie Pontell and Bonnie (Shawn) Merath.

He also had 15 grandchildren: Kelly (Jim) Willes, Jaime (Josh) Galow, Travis (Nikki) Luedtke, Josh (Amanda) Luedtke, Luke (Ashley) Luedtke, Stephanie (Craig) Cooper (Nystrom), Dilan (Audra) Effinger, Joe (Carrie) Luedtke, Janelle (Seth) Marquardt, Madeline Coyle, Brittany Weber, Samantha Weber, Jack Weber, Trista (Andy) Hottinger, and Brittanney Merath; 21 great-grandchildren: Samannatha Salaman, Damien Dobbe, Travis Genosky, Adam Salaman, Marleigh Radichel, Owen Smett, Soraya Galow, Alexandrea Luedtke, Auburn Luedtke, Jayden Luedtke, Brooklyn Knurr, Mason Wamego, Talyn Nystrom, Zayden Effinger, Christopher Jones, GraceAnne Luedtke, Blake Luedtke, Gaige Bastia, Madden Hottinger, Koleton Facer and Jayce Facer; two great-great grandchildren: Evelyn Salaman and Memphis Salaman; and was a brother to Janet and the late Robert.
