Thomas Charles Newman

Thomas Charles Newman, age 80, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2017, at his home with family. He was born in Milwaukee on July 4, 1937, to Charles and Martha (Harrigan) Newman. He was the eldest of nine children.

Tom was raised in Mukwonago and attended parochial and high school there. He enjoyed high school, especially playing football. He attended UW-Whitewater. Tom met the love of his life, Jane Kingston, in the summer of 1961. The two were married on May 16, 1962, in Milwaukee. Together they built a home and family in Eagle. Tom owned and operated, Newmans Auto Service Station in Eagle. Five of their six children were born in this area.

In 1978, Tom and Jane moved to northern Wisconsin opening another service station in Monico. Later they would move to Snowden Lake outside of Rhinelander and open Hodag Auto Sales.

He had a lifelong love for classic vehicles and shared this passion with his children. He also had a love for being Up North. It held a special place in his heart, which was instilled in all of his children. The U.P. and Lake Superior were his special places to escape and give him peace of mind. Tom was a devoted family man that loved his wife and six children dearly.

He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Joseph) Bocek of Crandon, Christopher Kingston of Malibu, Calif., Phillip Newman of Rhinelander, Kimberly (Peter Fourt) Deede of Rhinelander, Judith (Jon) Robinson of Rough and Ready, Calif., Valerie (James Dahl) Newman of Laurium, Mich.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; his parents; three sisters; and three brothers.

A memorial and remembrance service for Tom will be held on Saturday, December 9, at Holiday Acres Resort in Rhinelander. Service to start at 11 a.m. with Chaplain John Uhlarik officiating. There will be a luncheon to follow.
