Scott Stephen Schwenk passed away on November 4, 2017, in Maspeth, Queens, N.Y. Scott was born on March 21, 1966, in Des Plaines, Ill., a northwest suburb of Chicago, to William (Bill) and Ruth Ann Schwenk.
Scott followed his older brother, Kurt, in their love of reading and collecting super hero comics and action figures, over many years.
His mother passed away when Scott was 10 years old. His father later married Lila Lerdahl. Eleven-year-old Scott and his 16- year-old brother, Kurt, bonded with Lila and her family from Wisconsin. Also bringing them many years of joy was their dog, Krypto, (named after the planet Superman was from — Krypton), who they rescued while visiting family in Ohio.
Scott graduated from Buffalo Grove High School in Illinois and then attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He later transferred to De Paul University in Chicago.
In 1990, when his parents moved to Waukesha, Scott joined some friends and moved to New York. He worked in various high-end retail stores. He was with Armani for 14 years and was later made operations manager for the Armani stores.
Scott was a talented artist and writer, completing both a novel and comic book, but never submitted.
Scott is survived by his father, Bill; stepmom, Lila; brother, Kurt (Michael) of Evanston, Ill.; and many special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In addition to his mother, Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents and other precious family members.
A memorial service will be held at Elmbrook Church, 777 S. Barker Road, Brookfield, on Saturday, December 2, with Pastor Doug Schoen officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. in the church chapel.
