Mary Brauch (nee Smart)

Mary Brauch (nee Smart), longtime resident of Waukesha, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at the age of 88. Mary was born in Waukesha on May 27, 1929. She married the love her life Earl on October 16, 1948. They spent 64 happy years together. Mary was an active member of the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ in Waukesha for over 48 years. She always wore lovely hats to church on Sunday, where she was involved in all aspects of the church, including teaching Sunday school. Mary was known for her unique and creative cake decorating skills, including birthday, wedding and other beautiful cakes.

She especially loved spending time with her family more than anything. Mary, with her husband Earl, started the 4-H club in Waukesha County during the 1960s, where she was an active leader for 15 years. She watched many of the youth she mentored win awards. She involved the entire family in the many activities. Mary enjoyed polka dancing, bowling, sewing, crocheting and making crafts. She will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor.

Mary will be dearly missed by her three children, Linda (Dan) McKnight, Calvin Brauch and Scott Brauch; 10 grandchildren, Jeff McKnight, Kimberly (Richard) Robertson, Jason (Tammy) Brauch, Brian (Heidi) Brauch, Laura Brauch Bowey, Scott Brauch Jr., Roberta (John) Nemo-Brauch, Carrie (Jason) Van Knocker, Katie (Ron) Kennedy and Rebecca (Jerry) Arneson; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Helen Butterfield and Marlene Books. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband and parents.

The visitation for Mary will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. noon on Monday, December 11, at the Cesarz Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. The burial will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.
