Walter ‘Wally’ Sigrist

Walter ‘Wally’ SigristWalter “Wally” Sigrist (also known to some as “Wally-Gator”), age 89, of Hartford, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the Aurora Hartford Memorial Hospital.

Wally was born in the township of Rubicon on the family farm to Henry and Lena (nee Schlumpf) Sigrist. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Karn on November 8, 1958, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Thompson. He served in the United States Army stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict and later enjoyed attending Army reunions. He worked for Carnation Can (Silgan Co.) in Oconomowoc for 45 years.

Wally will be remembered dearly by his selfless, positive, easy going personality, and his willingness to help anyone out. He loved visiting with his neighbors and most of all adored his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid reader who loved to learn. He enjoyed watching the birds, gardening, driving his gator, attending John Deere tractor shows and overall being outdoors. He enjoyed his “retirement” helping his brothers Paul and Hank and nephew Chris on the Sigrist family farm and the (Highay) “P-Farm” with miscellaneous maintenance and field working projects, among watching his neighbors working on their farms.

Wally is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Lou Sigrist; loving children, Kevin (Tanya) of Raleigh, N.C., Joann (Karl) Reinders of West Bend, Linda Sigrist of Oconomowoc and Lori (LeRoy) Haeuser of Mequon; cherished grandchildren, Victoria (Nicholas) Haggenmiller, Monica Reimer, Ian (Jen), Calvin (friend Rachel) Reinders, Michael, Tony (friend Bailey) and Molly Sigrist; cherished great-grandchildren, Dakota and Sadie Reimer, Andrew and Henry Haggenmiller and Austin Reinders; cherished step-grandchildren, Chuck (Lisa), Lee Haeuser, Paula Parkman, Shelly Gambino and their families; dear siblings Hank Sigrist of Rubicon, Marion Lanski of New York and Albert (Beverly) of Oconomowoc; and dear siblings- in-law, Lyle (Heide) Karn, Rita Sigrist and Carole Karn.
