Robert Allen (Bob) Smul, 81, formerly of Waukesha, found eternal life January 11, 2018, in the arms of his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy, at hospice in Homosassa Springs, Fla., his home for the past 20 years.
Born on August 3, 1936, Bob grew up in Milwaukee and enlisted in the United States Army in 1958.
After completion of his military service in 1962, he returned home to Waukesha. Love arose in the summer of 1963 when Bob met his bride, Dorothy He asked if she would come watch him play baseball and later joined him for a drive-in movie. The two were engaged that fall and married on May 2,1964.
Bob proudly worked at General Electric for 34 years until his retirement in 1996. He was a faithful servant of his Lord Jesus Christ. He was involved in voluntary work through the church including coaching basketball and baseball, along with many other activities.
Bobís lifelong passion was baseball. He played eight seasons as a shortstop and clutch hitter for the Milwaukee Mets. He inspired leadership on the field as well as with family and friends. He was a true American hero.
Bob was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many and will be truly missed. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of 53 years; their two daughters, Pamela (Mike) Feltes and Jennifer (Jim) Gresch; his brother, James; grandkids, Jason (Ashley), Zachery, Austin, Rachel and Emma; and two beautiful great-granddaughters, Mila and Brielle.
Bob and his funny sense of humor will be greatly missed. He would not want us to cry but to remember to live life to the fullest as he did. We will miss you dearly!
Until we meet again...
