Dorothy J. Amidon

Dorothy Joan Amidon of Waukesha passed away peacefully Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the age of 99. Dorothy was born March 22, 1918, to the union of George and Edith Schmidt (nee Wahl).

Dorothy retired from Allis Chalmers after 33 years of clerical work. Dorothy also spent more than 30 years traveling and exploring the world, all while being an active member of The Eagles Club. Dorothy was full of life and will be truly missed.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory four children, John Gaynor of West Allis, Carrie (Fiance Gary Walorski) DeVine of Indiana, Patti (Bruce) Cummings of Waukesha and Colleen Stella- Gaynor of New York; 11 grandchildren; Richie (Sandy) Helmus, Wayne (Cakoiya) Helmus, Ryan (Kim) Devine, Shawn Devine, Katie (Bobby) Culver, Lori Smith, Ryan Cummings, Chad (Lisa) Cummings, Jared (Heidi Meyer) Cummings, Kimberly (David Krause) and Chloe Stella; sister-in-law Carol Jorgenson; 25 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Amidon, of 56 years; son Dennis Gaynor; grandson Jeffrey Helmus; and daughter-in-law Janet Gaynor.

The family would like to thank all of the loving caregivers that took care of Dorothy and allowed her to stay in her home for over five years. Our family would also like to thank Hometown Hospice and Linden Grove of Waukesha for the wonderful care they provided.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at St. Williams Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188.

Father Jose Nieto will be officiating. Burial will be immediately following services at St. Joseph Cemetery.
