Irene M. Gessner

Irene M. Gessner, 90, of the town of Polk, passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2005 at Synergy Health St. Joseph’s Hospital, town of Polk.

She was the daughter of William F. and Alma A. (Arndt) Funk and was born March 17, 1915 on the family farm where she was raised.

After completing school, she remained working on the farm and taking care of her mother, Alma.

On Sept. 10, 1955 Irene married Edwin W. Gessner and they raised their family on her homestead.

Irene remained active in supporting her husband with many activities in the community.

She loved flowers, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese and enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting.

Edwin and Irene treasured their time with Bible studies and fellowship with Christian friends.

Survivors include her loving children, Kathleen of the town of Polk, Diane (Bill) Richter of Madison, Joan (Paul) Schneiss of West Bend, Wayne (Laurie) of Janesville and Glenn (Randi) of Adell.

She was the dear grandmother of 14 and many great-grandchildren.

Further surviving are her sister, Edna Eller of Slinger and a sister-in-law, Florence Funk of Slinger.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edwin; a son, David; three brothers; a sister; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, West Bend.

Pastor Paul M. Sadler will officiate, and interment will be in Union Cemetery of Slinger on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services at 7 p.m.
