Irene M. Gessner

Irene M. Gessner of the town of Polk, passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital in the town of Polk at the age of 90.

She was the daughter of William F. (Alma A. Arndt) Funk and was born on the family farm on March 17, 1915. She was raised on the farm. After completing school, she remained working on the farm and taking care of her mother, Alma. On Sept. 10, 1955 she married Edwin W. Gessner and raised their family on her homestead. Irene remained active in supporting her husband with many activities in the community. She loved flowers, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese and enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting. Edwin and Irene treasured their time with Bible studies and fellowship with Christian friends.

Irene is survived by her loving children, Kathleen of the town of Polk, Diane (Bill) Richter of Madison, Joan (Paul) Schneiss of West Bend, Wayne (Laurie) of Janesville and Glenn (Randi) of Adell. She was the dear grandmother of 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Edna Eller of Slinger, and sister in law, Florence Funk of Slinger. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edwin, son David, three brothers, one sister, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Funeral services in honor of Irene M. Gessner were Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005 in the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Pastor Paul M. Sadler officiating. Interment was at Union Cemetery of Slinger on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005. Visitation was at the funeral home on Tuesday. Memorials are appreciated.
