Robert "Neil" Barker

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 10 at Hope Lutheran Church in Ladysmith for Robert "Neil" Barker of Ladysmith, who passed away peacefully at the Phoenix Baptist Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz., on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005 at the age of 83, due to complications following surgery. Visitation will be held at Hope Lutheran Church on Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. (prior to the service). Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Ladysmith.

During World War II, Neil served honorably aboard the destroyer escort USS Herzog (DE-178) and cruiser USS Omaha (CL-4) as a U.S. Navy helmsman. He was employed by Falk/Sunstrand Corp. in Milwaukee for 35 years before he retired in 1978.

Neil is survived by his wife Mary (nee Cukla) Barker; sons Robert (Jill) of Port Charlotte, Fla., David (Sheri) of Chula Vista, Calif.; daughters Jennifer (Dennis) Moze of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Kathy (David) Mielke of Random Lake; stepson Kelly Koch; stepdaughter Tammy Bednarik; and sister Dorothy Dodge of Florida. He is further survived by 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Neil was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Lucille Nichols; his parents David Earl Barker and Harriet Elizabeth Cassiday; brothers Carl, Fred, Victor and Don; and sisters Ruby Craney and Betty LaPorte.
