Debra H. Behnke
Debra H. Behnke (nee Harms) of Hartford, after a courageous battle with cancer went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend. She was 49 years old.
She was born Feb. 20, 1956 in Rutland, Ill. to Walter and Patsy Harms (nee Hubert). She married Ed Behnke on July 26, 1986 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hartford.
After earning a degree in elementary education from Illinois State University, Deb worked as a substitute teacher. She then devoted her life to home schooling her two youngest children. In addition, she co-founded a home school library called T.E.A.C.H. Library. She was an avid reader and enjoyed weaving baskets. Deb was also a volunteer usher at the Schauer Arts and Activities Center. Deb instilled a love for the Lord Jesus Christ in her entire family and she always tried to live by His example.
Debra is survived by her husband, Ed; two sons, Benjamin Vogel (Katrina Resh) of Elkhorn, and Adam Behnke of Hartford; a daughter, Kaitee Behnke of Hartford; her mother, Patsy (Herve) Dagesse of Sun City West, Ariz.; a sister, Nancy (Von) Kauffman of Katy, Texas; and her mother-in-law, Ida Behnke of Rubicon. She is further survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Harms.
Funeral services were on Monday Oct. 10, 2005 at Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, with Rev. Doug Livingston and Rev. John Bass officiating. Family greeted relatives and friends on Monday at Shimon Funeral Home.
Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartford on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, or the charity of one’s choice appreciated.
