Betty M. Ritte

Homemaker Betty M. Ritter died of a heart attack in Jefferson Healthcare Hospital, Port Townsend, Wash. on Oct. 7, 2005.

She was 85.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1920 to Otto and Selma (Gropper) Mickelson in Milwaukee, and was raised and received her education in Hartford. She married Robert Ritter in Milwaukee on July 3, 1942.

The Ritters lived in Hartford from 1942-56, then moved to Menomonee Falls until retirement led them to Cornell and Sierra Vista, Ariz., and eventually Port Townsend, Wash. Mrs. Ritter was an employee of the J.C. Penny Co. Inc. for more than 10 years. At age 74, she graduated from Cochise College in Sierra Vista. She documented her many travels both in the United States and Europe in personal journals. She was an active member of Methodist Church women’s and youth ministries.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Russel E. and Maria A. Ritter of Port Hadlock; brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Vi Mickelson; sister, Lois Gorton; sisters-in-law, Wanda and Pat Mickelson; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Barb Mickelson; brothers, Jack Mickelson and Dave Mickelson; brother-in-law, Gerry Gorton; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Marvin Luttropp; and her sister, Sally Mickelson.

Funeral services for Betty M. Ritter will be Friday, Oct. 21, 2005 at 11 a.m. with a lunch following the service at First United Methodist Church in Hartford.
