Mary "Sis" Weinand
Mary "Sis" Weinand, 75, of Hartford, died on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 at the Hartford Care Center.
She was born July 15, 1930 in West Bend to the late lee and Augusta (nee Glander) Weinand.
Sis graduated from West Bend High School and received her BS degree in physical education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1952.
She then taught in Platteville and Berlin prior to coming to Hartford in 1956 where she taught physical education and health at Hartford Union High School.
Sis also taught physical education at Central Middle School for many years.
She was the advisor for the Girls Athletic Association and was proud of the first place homecoming float built by the GAA.
Sis loved nature and all things green and growing.
She also loved her Chihuahuas and her poodles and her cottage near Waupaca.
Sis was always a kid at heart.
Survivors include a special friend, Rosemary Axtell of Hartford; two nephews, Keith Weinand of Sheboygan and Kurt (Judy) Weinand of Ogdensburg; three nieces, Sandra (Bruce) Hazelton of Burlington, Gail Weinand of Eagle River and Jeanne (Phil) of Stambaugh, Mich.; a dear aunt, Esther Weinand of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death was a brother, LeRoy "Bud."
Funeral services will be on Monday, Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union St., Hartford.
Chaplain Cheryl Matusiak of Heartland Hospice will officiate, and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the Shimon Funeral Home will be Monday from 11 a.m. until 1:15 p.m.
The family has requested memorials to the Washington County Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.
