Elizabeth D. "Betty" Benzing
Elizabeth D. "Betty" Benzing, nee Mattice, 71, of West Allis, formerly of West Bend, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at her residence.
Betty was born on July 24, 1934 to Emery R. and Ann T. (nee Switalski) Mattice in Milwaukee, where she also grew up.
She was employed for various businesses, including a cookie company and a restaurant as a waitress, where she met Wayne Michaels.
In May of 1954, the couple married in Milwaukee. In 1967 they moved to the West Bend area and began a loving family of four wonderful children of their own.
In addition to dedicating her love and time to her family, Betty also ran an in-home day care and worked for a home health care.
She later married Edmund Benzing on April 25, 1987 in Milwaukee. After marriage, the couple lived in Milwaukee until his passing in July of 2001.
Betty moved to the West Allis area, where she volunteered at various nursing homes.
She loved knitting, reading, cooking and baking cookies for both the residents in her building and her family.
Most of all, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Betty will be deeply missed and forever loved by her treasured children, Linda (Michael) Kurtz, Wayne (Sandra) Michaels and Kris (John) Hansen, all of West Bend, and Paul Michaels of Hartland; her cherished grandchildren, Stephanie (fiancˇ Scott Hundt) Kurtz, Andrea (fiancˇ Matthew Lochen) Kurtz, Amy and Kurt Michaels, and Shane and Katie Hansen; and her brother, William Mattice of Milwaukee.
She is further survived by many other special relatives and dear friends.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; and her siblings, Thomas, George and Richard Mattice, and Rosalie Krukow.
A funeral service to honor Betty will be held Friday, April 7, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, with Pastor Oscar Kraft officiating.
Cremation will take place at Paradise Cremation Services.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m.
