Merton M. Habeck

Merton M. Habeck, 87, of the Cedar Lake Health Care Center in the town of West Bend, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2006.

He was born on June 7, 1918 in Wausau to the late Otto and Adela (nee Koehler) Habeck, and was united in marriage to Esther Weinke on April 9, 1938 in Crystal Falls, Mich.

She preceded him in death in October, 1996.

During World War II, Merton served his country by enlisting in the United States Army.

Following the war, in 1948, Merton and his family moved to West Bend where he became a supervisor of newspaper production for the West Bend News.

He worked for the paper for over 30 years before retiring in 1970.

During his retirement he and Esther moved to Riverview, Fla. where they enjoyed many years together.

Merton is survived by two children, Sally (Richard) Mielke of Campbellsport and Judy Topel of West Bend; three grandchildren, Scott (Jayne) Topel of West Bend, Shelly Rowe of Petal, Miss. and Skip (Christine) Topel of Germantown; seven great-grandchildren, Todd and Kayla Topel, Corey, Alyssa and Deven Rowe, and Amanda and Kimberly Topel; a sister-in-law, Irene Habeck of Manitowoc; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two brothers, Lawrence and Melvin Habeck.

Private family services for Merton have been held.

Cremation will take place at Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service of West Bend.
