Carmen V. Backhaus

Carmen V. Backhaus, nee Mittelstadt, 70, of West Bend, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006 at SynergyHealth St. Jo-sephís Hospital in the town of Polk.

She was born on Dec. 30, 1935 in Hartford to the late Harold and Mary (nee Fasbender) Mittelstadt.

Carmen graduated from Hartford Union High School in 1953. She lived in Kewaskum before moving to West Bend in 1975.

Carmen worked as a bus operator for the Milwaukee County Transit System for many years until retiring in 1996.

She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and playing sheeps-head.

Survivors include three sons, Terry (Dianna) Backhaus of Sulfur, La., Kim (Cindy) Backhaus of Kewaskum and Kurt Backhaus of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Brian, Annie, Elizabeth, Melissa, Kristy, Jessie and Jackilyn; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Mittelstadt of Hartford and Stella Mittelstadt of Las Vegas, Nev.; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Ann Mittelstadt and Delores Amerell; along with two brothers, Floyd and Orval Mittelstadt.

A memorial service to celebrate Carmenís life will be held on Monday, Aug. 14, at 3 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, with Rev. John Bass officiating.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of service.

Cremation took place at Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service, and burial of Carmenís cremated remains will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.
