Robert J. "Bob" Metternich

Robert J. "Bob" Metternich, 82, of West Bend, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on Nov. 17, 1923 to Henry and Clara (nee Howerwitz) Metternich in Milwaukee. His family moved to the West Bend area in the late 1930s.

On April 22, 1950, he married Shirley Boden. They resided on the family farm and began a family of their own.

He worked on the farm until 1960, and then began working at Weasler where he remained for almost 20 years.

He then became a dedicated employee of the Washington County Highway Department, retiring in November of 1985.

After Shirley passed away in May of 1985, Bob married Agnes Moyer-Landvatter on April 17, 1988 in Lake Tahoe, Calif. and was able to follow his dream of moving up north to Phillips.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, spending time with his family and going for "Metternich Rides."

He was a past member of the Moose Lodge 1398 of West Bend.

Bob has found a special place in the hearts of his wife, Agnes; his daughter, Nancy (Dan Gross) Metternich of West Bend; his son, Scott (Cary) Metternich of West Bend; stepdaughter, Susan (Max) Driggs of Richmond, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kyle and Amanda Metternich, and Alyson and James Driggs; his sisters, Clara Sodemann of Tennessee, Virginia (Stanley) Hughs of West Bend, Elizabeth "Betty" Lepkowski of Greenfield and Sister Mary Elsa Metternich of Sun City, Ariz.; and his sister-in-law, Ellen Erickson of West Bend.

He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other special relatives and many dear friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 35 years, Shirley; two sons, Stephen Metter-nich and Daniel Metternich; two brothers, Henry (Burnell) Metternich and Norbert (Delcine) Metternich; a sister-in-law, Jane (Walter) Crewe; and brothers-in-law, Ernest Sodemann, Joseph Lepkowski and Leonard Erickson.

A funeral service in honor of Bob will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, with Pastor Reede officiating.

Cremation will take place at Paradise Cremation Services of West Bend.

Visitation with family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m.
