Ralph E. Birnschein

Ralph E. Birnschein, 76, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 at SynergyHealth St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend.

Ralph was born on Nov. 5, 1929 in Sheboygan, to the late William and Ruth (nee Knoener) Birn-schein.

He was raised in the Kohler area and left for the U.S. Army in 1948, serving until 1952.

He then married Janet Newton on Oct. 23, 1953 in Kohler. They moved to Sheboygan Falls and started a loving family of their own.

Ralph worked with his father in the welding business for a number of years, and then was a mechanical engineer at A.O. Smith in Milwaukee.

He enjoyed woodworking, musky fishing and, above all, spending time with his family.

Ralph could always make something out of nothing.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; three daughters, Ruth Ann (Gregory) Straub of Brookfield, Janel (Jeffery) Gelhaar of Milwaukee and Dori (Steve) Storch of Mequon; and six grandchildren, Ryan (Gina) and Rebecca Eigenfeld, Danielle and Kristin Gelhaar, Stephanie and Nicholas Storch.

He is also survived by a brother, Donald (Helen) Birnschein of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Marcene Ruehr of Sheboygan and Carol (Edward) Schultz of Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Marion (Wallace) Ertel; and a brother-in-law, Paul Ruehr.

The funeral service to honor the life of Ralph will be on Monday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at Wisconsin Memorial Park Chapel of the Chimes, 12857 W. Capitol Drive, Brookfield, with Pastor Tyge Zucker officiating.

Burial will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park.

The visitation will be held on Monday from 5 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. at Wisconsin Memorial Park Chapel of the Chimes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.
