Carlton Hiland, 89, of Silver Lake, town of West Bend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1917 in Oshkosh, to the late Julius and Mary (nee Schuster) Hiland, where he was also raised.
He served proudly for his country with the U.S. Army during World War II.
When he returned to the states, Carlton was employed for over 30 years as a plumber and steamfitter for various companies, including Ross Engineering of West Bend, Moser & Spaeth Plumbing of West Bend, and Stiles Plumbing of Sheboygan.
He was a registered member of the Gas Fitters of Washington County and past member of the Steamfitters Local Union 601 of Milwaukee.
He is survived by his cherished sister, Lillian Kobe of Oshkosh; dear uncle of Denise Hacker of Green Bay, Mary McKay of Marietta, S.C., Elizabeth Mc-Geshick of Crandon, Tina Row-land of Bessemer City, N.C., Sherry Parton of Dallas, N.C., Kathy Hall of Edgemoor, S.C., Ricky Hiland of York, S.C. and Daniel Hiland of Pelican Lake; loving great-uncle of Krista Pautges of Green Bay, Joseph Hiland of Pelican Lake and Coy Hiland of Bellmont, N.C.
He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was his life-long soul mate, Gertrude Smo-linski.
Private graveside services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
