Helen R. Staats

Funeral services were held on Aug. 27 at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth for Helen R. Staats of Plymouth. Helen died peacefully on Tuesday evening, Aug. 22, 2006 at the Plymouth Care Center at the age of 89. The Rev. Thomas Burton, associate pastor, officiated the funeral service. Visitation was held at the church in Plymouth prior to the service. Burial took place at St. Paulís Lutheran Cemetery in Grafton. The Wittkopp Funeral & Cremation Service in Plymouth served the family.

Helen was born on Oct. 1, 1916 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late John and Wilhelmina Bliese Wessel. Helen graduated from Girls Trade and Technical High School in Milwaukee.

On Aug. 31, 1940, Helen married Reuben A. Staats. The couple lived in Milwaukee until 1960 and then moved to Grafton. On March 29, 1978, Helenís husband preceded her in death. She then moved to Cedarburg and in 2000, she moved to Plymouth. While in Plymouth, she joined St. John Lutheran Church.

Helenís life revolved around her family and her husband, whom she helped through the years in his business. She enjoyed sewing and needlepoint of an artistic quality, played cards with family and friends and was an avid reader.

Helen is survived by her children Marilyn (William) Siebert of Wausau, Marjorie (Stanley) Petts of New Holstein and Timothy (Cathleen) Staats of Cedarburg; grandchildren Derrick Siebert, Mark Petts, Melissa Lodes, Monica Petts and Amy, Aaron and Sally Staats; and great-grandchildren Christine and Julia Lodes.

She was preceded death by her sisters Alice Wessel and Mabel Graf.
