Earl was born to eternal life on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006 surrounded by his loving family at St. Luke’s Medical Center of Milwaukee, at the age of 85. The Rev. Robert Johnson will officiate the funeral service. Visitation with family and friends of Earl will be held today at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A second visitation will take place at the church on Friday, from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Freistadt.
Earl was born on Jan. 29, 1921 to Erich and Elsie (nee Baerenwald) Boehlke in West De Pere, where he spent part of his childhood. In 1927, the family moved to Freistadt. Earl’s father Erich took care of Trinity Freistadt Lutheran Church and School (which included grounds care, building maintenance and ringing the bells). Earl, his brother Ernst and his twin sister Ruth all gave their helping hands to their father working at the church and school.
Earl attended and graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School with the class of 1939. He met Loraine E. Klug several years after graduation, and they got married on Aug. 28, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistadt. The couple remained in Freistadt for several months and then moved to Random Lake, where they settled on a farm and began a loving family of their own. Besides operating the farm, Earl continued working with his father and his brother at Boehlke Hardware of Mequon. The business expanded to have a complete line of plumbing, heating, water system installations and propane bottled gas service.
In 1954, Earl, his brother Ernst and Gerhard Wetzel erected a propane gas plant three miles east of Jackson. Along with Boehlke Bottled Gas Company, they continued to work the hardware store. Earl was also a licensed master plumber.
Earl was a member and served as an elder at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistadt. He was past member of the Mequon Rotary, Mequon Contractors Association, the American Angus Association and the Milwaukee Farmers Club. He also supported the Ozaukee County 4-H organizations. Throughout his life, Earl held a passion and appreciation for nature, trees, farming and quality cattle and horses, all of which he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Loraine E. (nee Klug) Boehlke of Random Lake; his cherished children Beverly (Ron) Depies of Adell, Judith (E. Miche) Priaulx of Cedarburg, Robert (Dawn) Boehlke of Random Lake, Roger (Carol) Boehlke of Germantown, Linda (Rolf) Sommer of Random Lake, Royal (Linda) Boehlke of Random Lake and Cynthia (Jay) Johnson of Indianola, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his twin sister Ruth (the Rev. Gerhard) Dobberfuhl of Woodland, Texas; and siblings-in-law (on his wife Loraine’s side) Elvera Buch of Tomah, Norma Schoessow of Fredricksburg, Texas, Marion Frenz of Cedarburg and Franklin (Evelyn) Klug of Random Lake. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other very special relatives and dear friends.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law Ernst (Esther) Boehlke; grandchildren Andrew and Jerilyn Boehlke; and several siblings-in-law on Loraine’s side.
The family has requested that memorials are offered in honor of Earl to either the Trinity Lutheran Freistadt Church Historial Society or the Jerilyn Boehlke Scholarship Fund.
